In November of 1988, Kevin Bruce Barmak was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. Doctors initially believed it was inoperable and told Kevin's parents that he had three days to a week to live. Kevin was immediately transferred from Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. to Boston Children's Hospital for a second opinion. A week later, doctors removed a part of the tumor. On February 23, 1990, after several intensive treatments including chemotherapy, Kevin lost his brave fight against cancer.Kevin's life and career have left a significant impact on those who have followed in soccer. Kevin displayed a concern for others and a sense of fairness on and off the field. He had a determination to bring his team to victory whenever possible. It was extremely important to Kevin that teams play with fairness and that all members have the opportunity to play and share in the joys of soccer. This is the legacy that had been identified by the Enfield Town Council, through the annual soccer tournament named in his honor and the establishment of a memorial scholarship which recognizes graduating seniors who display these characteristics.
